Tennessee Repertory Theatre is launching another exciting season of artist enrichment workshops led by some of Nashville’s finest professional teaching artists. This year they are offering three new dramatic writing workshop taught by Tennessee Repertory Theatre Playwright-in-Residence Nate Eppler.
This new season of educational programming includes workshops for playwrights of all experience levels and for the first time a playwriting class designed specifically for actors.
The Perfect Monologue (Playwriting Workshop for Actors)
Why search for the perfect monologue when you can write your own? What playwright knows you better than you? You don’t have to be a playwright to create your own performance piece, and this workshop is designed to show you how. Specifically tailored to actors, this workshop uses straight-forward and easy to learn writing techniques. Participants will complete the workshop with a first draft of a brand new monologue specifically tailored to their strengths as an actor.
Breaking Good (Playwriting Workshop for Beginning to Intermediate Dramatists)
Do you have a story to tell? A great idea for a play? Started work on a script and not sure where to go next? This Playwriting workshop will give you the tools and resources to jump headlong into your script. The workshop covers advanced tactics to break your big ideas into a well-built plot, strong scenes and essential beats. By demystifying the process of plotting and providing you with the skills to successfully tackle your play, participants will complete this workshop with a plan of attack for their script and a practical map to finish their first draft.
Flip the Script (Playwriting Workshop for Intermediate and Advanced Dramatists)
You’ve finished your first draft, now what? This Intermediate Playwriting workshop will provide you with the tools necessary to rework your draft from back to front. By learning to work backwards through the script, playwrights will learn to see their draft in a whole new light. Participants will complete this workshop with a clear grasp of the shape of their play and the next steps to take toward a strong new draft. A great class if you have a completed play that you feel hasn’t made the jump or if you have a play you’ve always wanted to finish.
